Nuclear Blast, sello discográfico independiente y distribuidor por correo con sede en Alemania, Estados Unidos y Brasil. Fue fundado en 1987 pot Markus Staiger en Alemania. Inicialmente distribuyendo música hardcore punk, empezó a publicar álbumes de bandas de Death Metal, Grindcore, Black Metal y Power Metal, así como álbumes de tributo. Nuclear Blast es ampliamente respetada por ser el mayor sello en la escena del Metal melódico, junto con Century Media. La oficina central se encuentra en Donzdorf, Göppingen. Nuclear Blast America distribuye sus grabaciones a través de Century media como parte de una colaboración estratégica entre los dos sellos independientes dedicados a la música Metal.

El primer lanzamiento del sello fue una recopilación en vinilo llamada Senseless Death, que reunía bandas norteamericanas de Hardcore como Attitude, Sacred Denial, Impulsive Manslaughter, y otros. La primera edición, de 1000 copias, se agotó en un año.

Nuclear Blast comenzó a firmar con bandas de grindcore cuando Staiger descubrió a la banda Righteous Pigs, de Las Vegas. A éste descubrimiento siguieron lanzamientos de Atrocity, Master e Incubus. Éste giro hacia el grindcore consiguió para la discográfica la atención mundial.

A principios de los noventa, el Black Metal se hizo popular en la escena underground europea, y Nuclear Blast firmó con muchas bandas, algunas de las cuales, como Dimmu Borgir y Dissection continúan aún con la discográfica; también firmaron con bandas como Amorphis y Therion quienes proponían un estilo diferente al conocido.

A finales de los noventa, Nuclear Blast se expandió hacia el Power Metal, promocionando bandas como Hammerfall o Helloween. Hacia el año 2000, el sello comenzó a trabajar con bandas finlandesas como Sonata Arctica o Stratovarius, y los alemanes Blind Guardian, expandiendo su estilo a diferentes estilos de Metal como el Gothic.

En el 2004, gracias al álbum Once de Nightwish, Nuclear Blast ganó el primer disco platino en su historia; de ahí, muchas bandas de estilos similares se han asimilado como Epica, Xandria y After Forever.

En el 2007, conmemorando su 20avo aniversario lanzó "20 Years Of Nuclear Blast", producción que contiene 70 temas divididos en 4 discos.
